Do It Yourself Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

I don’t know about you but my lips, like the rest of my body, have been extremely dry this winter season. Likely this is due to the combination of the cold and dry weather outside and the desert like atmosphere of my Beacon Hill apartment. Regardless of the cause, I have only recently decided to do something about it by whipping up a batch of my brown sugar lip scrub and exfoliating away the dry patches of skin from my lips.

My brown sugar lip scrub recipe is inspired by the pricey (at least to me) Sugar Lip Polish made by Fresh and is ridiculously easy to make. If you have the ingredients on-hand (and most likely you will!) I recommend you getting going on a batch of your own ASAP – your wallet and lips will thank you. In using this simple scrub, the brown sugar and finely ground sea salt will gently exfoliate your lips while the olive oil restores smoothness and moisture and the coconut oil aids in cell renewal and the production of collagen in your lips. What’s not to love?

Tips on making & using:

  • Feel free to experiment! Add a bit of honey for an extra hit of moisture to your lips or vanilla extract and/or cinnamon for added flavor (it is edible after all).
  • Don’t be afraid to apply a lot and let it sit on your lips for a bit before exfoliating so the oils have a chance to absorb into your lips.
  • Due to the inherently coarse nature of brown sugar and sea salt (even if it is finely ground) a light exfoliation should be all you need!

Brown Sugar – 1 teaspoon
Finely Ground Sea salt – 1 teaspoon
Coconut Oil – 1/2 teaspoon
