DIY Citrus Coconut Energy Drink

I really enjoy mixing up my own cocktails at home and prefer it to using pre-made mixers, so when my sister in-law suggested that I try making my own diy energy drinks at home I knew I had to try it out.  Unless you are living under a rock you know that [most of] the energy drinks you find in the super market, gym or convenience store are full of sugar and excess stimulants – not exactly something I want to be drinking, especially before or after a workout. Thankfully, there are plenty of energy drinks you can make at home that are easy and low in cost! After searching online for some time, this energy drink recipe from VeganAnn.com stood out to me as something I could see myself making regularly, modify if needed, and enjoy drinking.

This energy drink is super easy to mix up (especially if you have a small blender like a Magic Bullet or NutriNinja), hydrating, actually gives you energy and doesn’t fill you up like a smoothie would. Aside from the obvious purpose of this drink, it would also make for a great alternative to having a caffeinated beverage in the morning or afternoon.

Recipe from VeganAnn.com w/ slight modifications.

Ingredients

citrus coconut diy energy drink

dates

1 1/2 cups coconut water (if you don’t have coconut water, you can use water!)
½ tsp extra virgin coconut oil*
1½ tsp fresh lime juice
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
2-3 dates (2 if you are using medjool dates, 3 if you are using the smaller deglet door dates)
1½ tsp agave nectar
pinch of sea salt

*Tip: melt the coconut oil before using! I learned the hard way and ended up with some tiny pieces of oil in my drink that would otherwise have blended in perfectly if the oil had been melted.

Instructions

coconut water

coconut oil

lime

1. Put everything into the blender and blend well. Enjoy!

Please disregard the tiny pieces of coconut oil! Next time I will be melting the oil prior to blending!

This sounds delish. I love dates, so I’ll have to give this a try!
