Two Thousand Fifteen: Completing a New Years Resolution

Every year, people bring up the topic of New Years resolutions…making them, and then usually breaking them (or just forgetting about them) once February rolls around. Last year, I set a very concrete goal and managed to stick with it for 12 months straight. The goal was extremely personal to me (which I guess I am going to go ahead and share with the world now): to attend therapy on a weekly basis in attempt to manage stress and anxiety that was beginning to take its toll.

The previous year (’14) had been a big one! I purchased my first condo, completed a UX design program, started a new job, and began/ended a relationship that had been extremely meaningful to me. I have always been the type of person who feels most comfortable when everything is within my control, however the year had brought on some situations that were far, far out of my control. When I began having very physical symptoms of stress (think racing heart…restlessness…sleeplessness), I knew I need some help!

Although I am someone who will always be a little type A…a little stress and anxiety ridden, I am proud to say that after a year of therapy I have chilled out A LOT. Within a year I have learned so much about myself, the people I surround myself with and also how to cope in stressful situations while maintaining a more rational/balanced outlook.

Therapy is strange…but it’s a place where you can go to focus on YOU, and just you. Its all about you! After 12 months, I think I am at a place where I can take a little break from it and see how I do “on my own.” I am looking forward to not having to sneak out of work early on Monday to attend my session ☺ (what can I say? Type A is type A!)

I have been thinking a lot about setting a goal for 2016…but in a way, I sort of began working on my New Years resolution back in September. I began working on this blog! A creative outlet for Liz and I to share stories, experiences and beautiful things that make us happy. My goal for 2016 is to continue developing fun, interesting posts to share and potentially grow out readership and network a little bit!
